It always starts with courage

The other day, I was thinking about how every meaningful change in my life has started the same way – not with a perfect plan, or clarity, or even readiness.
But with a small act of courage.

Sometimes, it was sharing how I felt out loud for the first time.
Other times, it was making a decision even though I didn’t know what the outcome would be.
Often, it was quietly choosing to honour something in myself that I had been pushing aside.

It’s easy to think courage is only for big moments – quitting your job, moving cities, starting over. But more often, it shows up in the ordinary: the moment you say “this isn’t working,” or “I want more,” or “I’m afraid, but I’ll try anyway.”

We don’t talk enough about the invisible courage it takes just to shift course.
To stop numbing.
To listen inward.
To want something different.

Courage is the quiet beginning of change.

Before the action, before the outcome – courage is what stirs beneath the surface.
And here’s the beautiful part: courage is often a response to your values nudging you.
It’s what happens when something deep in you says,
“This matters. Live like it matters.”

When it comes to your career, courage is the foundation.
Because pursuing work that feels meaningful, honest, or true to who you are? That’s vulnerable.
It might mean letting go of something secure.
It might mean being seen more fully.
It will definitely mean stretching beyond comfort.

But it’s also where so much life and energy is found.

So if you’re standing at a crossroads, feeling unsure – don’t wait until you’re fearless.
Just ask yourself:
What would the brave version of me do next?

That one brave step, however small,is often what unlocks the path.
